The Parkview Power U18Girls Soccer team has concluded a successful run in their final season in community soccer. The girls, under the coaching of Gerard Zentner, Rick Lough and Val Ruske, won Gold in Provincial Intercities in Calgary. The season was an accumulation of 10 years of soccer, starting with the girls at U8 and concluding at U18! They have had tremendous success
over the years including winning a number of tournaments like the Polar Cup, Slush Cup, West Zone, Duggan, Millwoods…. The team has also won the zone playoffs, City Championships, as well as Provincials!
The core group of players has been together since U8 and have played both indoor and outdoor seasons since U12. This team has represented Parkview with great pride and showed tremendous team spirit and fair play. They have won the Fair Play awards at various tournaments throughout their playing career.
The team has also travelled to Salt Spring Island in BC for the past three seasons for a youth soccer tournament.
The team would like to thank the community for their tremendous support over the years! The team will be staying together as they move up to the adult women’s league and they will continue to honor their community by calling the team Parkview Power FC.
The team consists of: Carmen Davies, Emilie Zentner, Emily Ruske, Erin Atterbury, Hannah Graham, Hannah Marvin, Jillian McCann, Juli Vukovic, Katherine Creelman, Kristen Millions, Linnea Merrigan, Madison Wilson, Natalie Cockwill, Shannon Lough, Stephanie Bouwsema, Erin Flynn, Megan Gnanasihamy, Keira Barbar, Samantha Griffiths.
As of the end of April 2010 the outdoor season has started. This year Parkview is hosting twenty two teams ranging in age from 4 to 18. Depending on the type of team the season runs from the last week of April into July.
Thanks to all the coaching staffs for leading our teams. Several of the staffs have been coaching a similar group of players for years!! Community soccer can only exist because of you dedicated volunteers.
The soccer program in Parkview is in need of volunteers to assist in the coordinating of the program. A co-coordinator to help with registrations, planning meetings and coordinating half of the teams would be ideal. The time commitment would be around 20 to 30 hours starting in January and lasting until the soccer season is over. The program could also use a person to take charge of the soccer equipment. This would involve taking an inventory of the equipment we have and the distribution and collection of the team uniforms and other equipment. The time commitment would be around 10 to 20 hours from early April to mid July. Finally, the indoor soccer coordinator from last season is unavailable. Parkview had 5 teams last season. The coordinating of indoor is substantially done by the West Zone Soccer Association so the time commitment is less than for outdoor soccer. The season lasts from roughly October to March and somebody familiar with indoor soccer could easily handle this position.
If any of these positions interest you please contact the outdoor soccer coordinator at

The Parkview Power U18 Girls Soccer Team recently returned from their third annual trip to the Salt Spring Island Youth Challenge Cup soccer tourney in
BC. The girls arrived in Victoria on Friday and spent some time shopping and sightseeing. After arriving on Salt Spring Island and settling into the
barn of our host, the team starting preparing for the tournament by having the traditional pregame meal (pizza). Saturday was a beautiful day and the
girls met a couple of strong teams from Nanaimo and Cowichan. After the last game the team went to Ruckle Provincial Park and had a bonfire at the
beach followed by a guided nature walk through the forest. The next morning the team had an early game with a team from Vancouver. The game was a bit
rough but the girls played through it. The last game on Sunday was against the team from Salt Spring. This game was really close but again, the other
team prevailed. The BC teams were just finishing their season and were at the top of their game. Despite a number of practices, the Parkview girls were still a bit rusty!
Though the team didn't have the results on the field that they wanted, they really enjoyed playing on grass for the first time in 10 months! The Parkview Power Soccer team also received a number of compliments from the referees and the organizers. They really liked the team's style and class.
After the last game it was off to the pool and then the beach where they enjoyed relaxing, kayaking, the sun and burgers! The next morning we piled into "The Beast" (team van) and headed to the airport with a quick stop in Sydney for fish and chips.
This is the last season for the Parkview Power U18 Girls soccer club in community soccer. The team would like to thank the community for the support that we have received over the years. We believe that we represented the community well in various tournaments including the Salt Spring Tournament, various City Championships and Provincials four times.
The Parkview girls are now planning to keep the team together and move on towards a women's team in adult soccer and hope to continue to represent the Parkview community in years to come.
